Assignment Four - Task Five: Final Evaluation Re-Draft

Introduction

The product that I am advertising is the new iPhone 5s which is an upgrade from the previous iPhone 5 and includes new features such as Slow motion video, Fingerprint identification and even hardware upgrades which allow the iPhone to load faster and have a bigger battery life.
The target audience would be for teenagers (Ages 13-21), the teenager age group would not be the most profitable age group for the product however we can make an easy advertisement which can show how the iPhone would be useful to them and end up making more of the age group to buy it.
The idea for selling the product is by embedding an idea subconsciously that the audience would need an iPhone in order to make their lives easier, more fun, more simple and overall better. We do this by showing multiple scenarios which the phone user would use the iPhone to show that the iPhone is needed or would use the iPhone in order to play music which can show that the iPhone can just be fun to have.

Audience Feedback

The method I chose for audience feedback is a focus group where I would ask qualitative questions which allow me to get in depth feedback either through criticism that can either show me improvements that i can do on my work or any praise which can show me ideas that worked well in my advertisement which i should include in any other production pieces.
I gathered this information by first showing the focus group my advertisement and then first asking 'What do you like about the advertisement? Why?' and once they gave me that feedback i had asked 'What improvements do you think I should include? Why?', these two questions allow for a lot of feedback to be gathered as they can include all praise or criticisms that come to mind in the audience which will be useful for me after. I think I asked the best questions I could because the questions can cover a variety of possible feedback I would've gathered for the advertisement, the questions allow for both what the audience liked and disliked which are both the most useful feedback.

What feedback did I find most useful?
I found the criticisms most useful as they show me improvements that I need to make next time I create an advertisement or production piece. The audience liked the way that I created the slogan for the iPhone at the very end and the way that I integrated the music in the production piece, this means that it worked great with the advertisement and I'm glad I included them. The audience disliked the way I had used a jump cut in the middle of a scene which I thought would shorten the advertisement and also show that the character would've rambled on but i learn't from that mistake and will most likely never use another one again.

My Feedback
I think that the advertisement was good however the camera work made the advertisement look very amateurish, this would most likely improve dramatically next time i create a production piece. The slogan I had was a great idea however it could've been made better with more time and more practise with photoshop. I completely agree with the criticisms that I have been given and will try to take in consideration next time or even maybe improve on the improvements.

Summary

The advertisement had a few faults in it however the advertisement was generally great it was clear what we were advertising and it portrayed the idea that the audience would need the iPhone really well, the faults were in the way that the plot was concerned because it had looked kind of bland in the way of a plot like for example why the people were going from one location to another. The advertisement also looked amateurish because in the scenes there is only 1-2 shots which included no close-ups or moving shots. The advertisement was also lacking in the sound front as we had to work with the microphone sound from the camera and when it was outside it would even pickup the wind which would overtake the actor dialogue and made the sounds unbearable.
Overall i think that it would sell the product as it portrayed the idea well and would make the audience realise that they need the iPhone.

Conclusion

In the end I am happy with our result however I could've improved it quite dramatically by having experimented with more camera shots by having the camera aiming from different angles, multiple cameras maybe or even by having moving camera shots. I could've also had improved it by having used a microphone to record sound rather than the camera microphone because the actor dialogue was difficult to edit in because the outside noise was a bit difficult to cover up. In the editing phase i could've also improved the advertisement by not using any unnecessary jump cuts or designing a better slogan using photoshop.

Assignment Four - Task Three: Audience Feedback

From my focus group I had got a lot of useful feedback which I have taken into consideration. The feedback which I had found really useful is the criticisms by the audience because they give me many areas to improve upon like for example I had got one piece of feedback where someone said that I had to show my plot of the advertisement (as it was kind of bland), or that i should remove a jump cut that i had used in the middle of a scene. I also get given feedback that praise the advertisement, this is great because it also tells me what I should keep every time i create an advertisement or production piece like for example one person liked the way I created the slogan at the end of the advertisement and another liked the music I chosen and how it was integrated in the advert however this music might have some people that won't like it and I wont have been able to get their criticisms as the people in my focus group either liked or didn't mind the music.

Assignment Four - Task Two: Screening

My Screening

In my screening the method i chose is a focus group to ask a couple of people to ask a couple of questions to. I ended up asking qualitative questions to try and get as much useful feedback as possible. Having a small group allows for each person in the group to give their opinions and it puts their opinions in perspective for the advertisements. The questions i asked also allowed for a couple of criticisms that i have taken in consideration for any future work. The reason I chose is a focus group to ask questions is because I can actually listen to any honest feedback that I can take into consideration for next time I create another production piece.
The Pros for this focus group is that I can get really useful feedback as it's honest, it also gives me a chance to notice the reactions of the audience whilst they're watching my advertisement.
The Cons for this focus group is that it is small and i will not get a lot of feedback, also the groups of audiences are big and the people in the focus group do not tick of many of the groups for example there is two age groups (which is good however there is many age groups that are still left).

Assignment Four - Task One: Sources of Information

Storyboard

In our pre-production phase we began working on a storyboard to help us in our production phase by helping us know what we generally should be filming. In our production phase we had followed our storyboard and filming scenes fairly close to the storyline of the storyboard. As this was a small scale project following fairly close to a storyboard is fine however if we were filming a large project like a movie we would have to follow a script (Storyboard) to the letter otherwise the film would be out of hand and editors won't be able to edit the film properly.

Shooting Schedule

In our pre-production we had also began work on a shooting schedule to help us in production however  because this was a small project we really didn't have to follow this schedule and we ended up filming anytime we got any free time. A shooting schedule would be very important for a large project because you would need to have the employees come in at the same rather than having many people just show up at random intervals.

Budget

In our pre-pruduction we had come up with a budget list where we would write up a list that we would've used that would have cost money, having a budget is very important so that a movie doesn't go over budget and bankrupt the company producing the film. When we created our piece we never really took the budget list seriously due to the fact that we really didn't spend any money to produce the ad piece.

Contingency Plan

In our pre-production we had come up with a contingency plan which we never really followed with our production phase due to the fact that we had usually changed our plans on the fly for filming the most convenient scenes first. This would be more important for a big budget film because it helps the production of the film not steer away from its shooting schedule and be able to finish the movie in time for release.

Risk Assessment

For our pre-production we had also come up with a risk assessment of the areas that we would film, for example if we would have to cross a rush hour road it would be a risk for the production crew. Our filming locations were fairly nearby and we wouldn't have had to write a large risk assessment because there wasn't really much risk. A risk assessment would be very important to a large production set piece because there would be a large crew and would have to have a large risk assessment for the safety of the entire film crew.

Audience Research

In advance for our advertisement we researched our target audience's wants for an advert by organising a focus group including a couple of people we chose to ask questions about the product we are going to advertise, by doing the focus group we find what the audience wants to find in an advertisement. A larger production would need a larger audience research to make the production worth while rather than making an undesired advertisement.
